Medialoco LLC
A software development studio in Austin, Texas
Medialoco LLC is a limited liability company registered in the State of Texas. We design and build native applications for Apple platforms — iOS, iPadOS and macOS — and we do the whole job: the research, the data, the interface, the code, and the long tail of maintenance afterwards.
We are deliberately small. One team sees a product from the first sketch to the release notes, which means there is nobody to hand a problem to and nobody to blame for it either. It also means we take on fewer projects than we are asked to.
What we work on
Most of our work is educational software: applications that set out to teach something specific and verifiable, and that can prove the learner has actually learned it. That is a narrower brief than “content”, and it changes how the software is built. A quiz that accepts a lucky guess as knowledge is worse than no quiz at all.
Alongside that we take on contract work for other companies, usually where an existing product needs a native application built properly rather than a web page in a shell.
Statelore
Our first published application. Statelore teaches the geography of the United States: the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the five territories — where each one sits on the map, its capital, its largest cities, and what the place is genuinely known for. Each of the fifty-six places has its own illustration, because a picture is what memory reaches for later.
It works entirely offline, makes no network requests of any kind, and collects nothing about the people who use it. More about Statelore.
How we build
- No tracking. Our applications contain no analytics, no advertising and no third-party software development kits. We do not want your data and we have built nothing to store it.
- Offline first. If an application can work without a network, it should. Ours ship their content inside the download and keep working on a plane, in a car with no signal, or in a classroom with no Wi-Fi.
- Checked facts. Where we state a figure, it comes from a named source and we say which one. Statelore's population and area numbers, for instance, come from the 2020 United States Decennial Census.
- Bought once. We would rather sell an application than rent one, and rather sell it whole than hold part of it back.
